This year's festival is of special importance as it falls on the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Dohány Street Synagogue and the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and Israel, said Gusztáv Zoltai, managing director of the Union of Jewish Congregations of Hungary (MAZSIHISZ).
Among the highlights of the festival will be a concert by the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Riccardo Muti.
The festival will open with a Sephardic Evening featuring the world music singer Bea Palya in the Dohány Street Synagogue. Szilvia Kárászy and the Solti Chamber Orchestra will present a Händel Evening in the nearby Rumbach Street Synagogue at the same time. The flautist Eszter Horgas will play works by Astor Piazzolla and traditional Jewish songs with the Class Jazz Band.
Eszter Bíró will sing modern arrangements of traditional songs at the Gödör Club on September 3.
The three Király sibings - Viktor, Linda and Benjamin - will perform at the SYMA Hall on September 6.
An exhibition of photographs by the great photojournalist Robert Capa will be shown in the Jewish Museum.
