The awards were granted for the sixth time at an event held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on Saturday. Deputy chairman of the 21st Century Society Sándor András Kocsis and board chairman Szilveszter Ördögh presented the awards. House Speaker Katalin Szili attended the ceremony.
The recipients are the playwright Miklós Hubay, the author Ferenc Fejtő, the ethnographer Zoltán Kallós, the painter Ignác Kokas, the actress Mari Törőcsik, the mathematician Vera T. Sós and the musicologist József Újfalussy.
Ferenc Fejtő was unable to attend due to ill health, so his son received the award for him.
The winners were presented with a statuette of the poet Attila József, from whose collection of sonnets the award gets its name. The award was set up in 2001 to recgonise Hungarians who have made outstanding contributions to Hungary?s scientific and cultural life.
Prior to the awards ceremony on Saturday, the members of the 21st Century Society visited Attila József ?s grave in Kerepesi Cemetery to pay tribute to him
Last year?s recipients of the ?My Home Country? award were the actress Kati Berek, the author and journalist Pál Bodor, the agricultural engineer László Cselőtei, the film director István Gaál, the poet Sándor Kányádi, the photographer Péter Korniss and the opera singer László Seregi.
