In addition to guests from a number of countries in Europe, participants will also be coming from Hong Kong, South Korea and the United States, said Győr Ballet director János Kiss. He added that the festival?s foreign guests were likely to talk up in their own countries what they see at the festival, resulting in invitations and performance opportunities abroad for Hungarian dance ensembles.
The eight-day festival, organised by the National Dance Theatre, the Győr Ballet and the Hungarian Dancers' Association, will offer the public a broad palette of performances, from classical ballet to contemporary dance, by Hungary?s leading dance companies. The motto for this year?s festival is ?The Whole City is Dancing?.
Dance companies not included in the main programme will have a chance to perform 20-minute productions in a showcase on June 20 ? 22. And before the main performances, amateur and alternative dance companies will perform on the square in front of the Győr National Theatre. There will also be performances for children as well as dance classes.
The festival has received a HUF 35 million National Cultural Fund grant, to which the local council of Győr has added another HUF 10 million and the tourism commission a further HUF 1 million.
The festival?s organisers have held press conferences in Vienna, Bratislava, and Rév-Komárom to create interest in the event.
