English

?Sigismundus - Rex et Imperator?, which opened on March 18, not only boasts the biggest budget, it also displays the largest number of works and borrows from the most museums compared to any previous exhibition in Hungary. The exhibition shows some 400 works of art, including paintings, sculpture jewellery, codices and arms, from 100 collections in 19 countries. All of the objects are among the finest examples of art during the time of Sigmund of Luxembourg, who was Holy Roman Emperor from 1410 to 1437.

Audio guides for the exhibit are available for visitors in Hungarian, English and German. The museum is also offering several special educational programmes related to the exhibit. Among them are programmes for class visits which include making fire place tiles and creating an altarpiece, as well as programmes for families which involve a task sheet and the chance for induction into the ?Order of the Dragon?. On Thursday evenings, when the exhibit is open until 20:00, visitors will be treated to period music performed live.

The exhibit also has an extraordinary homepage ? www.sigismundus.hu ? featuring explanations and high-quality digital reproductions of dozens of works on display.

?Sigismundus - Rex et Imperator? closes on June 18, after which it will travel to Luxembourg?s Musée national d'histoire et d'art.
