English

The Association of Hungarian Book Publishers and Booksellers has organised Book Week since 1929, making it the oldest event of its kind in Europe.

The publication of nearly 400 contemporary Hungarian books as well as a number of translations of foreign works has been timed to coincide with Book Week. More than 200  Hungarian and foreign publishers will present books on the square.

In addition to stands, there will be two stages set up on the square. Talks will take place on the stages in the daytime and musical acts will perform in the evening.

Two-time Kossuth award winning poet Ferenc Juhász will open this year's Book Week.

In addition to the programme on Vörösmarty Square, events will take place in the cities of Miskolc, Nagykőrös, Pécs, Sopron, Szeged, Szolnok, Veszprém, Békéscsaba, Balatonfüred, Gödöllő, Dunaújváros, Kaposvár and Debrecen.
