Schiff accepted the certificate of honourary membership after a concert on Sunday.
Konzerthaus chief executive Bernhard Kerres praised Schiff not only for his long time artistic ties to the Konzerthaus, but for his bravery in standing up for human rights and against racism and anti-Semitism.
The music critic Walter Dobner wrote that every one of Schiff?s performances is exciting because he takes music off the well-trodden path.
Schiff shares the honour of membership in the Konzerthaus with such famous artists as Pierre Boulez, Gidon Kremer, Nicolaus Harnoncourt and György Ligeti.
