La MaMa is showing I Killed My Mother, directed by Karin Coonrod.
?[The] play tells the story of a Romanian Roma (gypsy) girl whose mother abandons her after birth. With the help of her childhood soul-mate she learns to navigate the harsh realities of her existence and to excise parasitic relationships, to ?kill,? to turn her back forever even on the maternal bond, in order to discover her own extraordinary identity,? the theatre says on its website.
Visky will participate in a talk with Coonrod at the theatre on Wednesday. The event is organised with the cooperation of the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York.
Visky will also pay a visit to the Hungarian Cultural Centre in New York. On Sunday, he will take part in a talk with Melissa Hawkins, the director of Theater Y, which also performed I Killed My Mother.
