Artist to Stage Private Protest in Budapest

English

The exhibition is based on a street action by Eperjesi in Buenos Aires in May 2007. In the action, the artist took to the street with a sign, of recycled wood, which carried the word "protesta". Now Eperjesi is bringing the action to Budapest, with photographs of the happening in Brazil and with banner messages submitted by people who were touched by it. Eperjesi is also inviting visitors to the exhibition in Budapest to create their own protest banners.

"I would like you to imagine holding my protest banner in your hands. Imagine marching up with it, but not outside where the people are, but inside where you are, to the place where you are totally on your own," Eperjesi's invitation reads.

"Go as far as you need to go to see clearly why you are holding this banner in your hands and what is making you protest (perhaps even though you do not want this). Go to find out what this helpless anger inside you is, what hurts, and what you believe to be unchangeable. That is how you will be able to interpret what is written on your banner. And, if you can read it, please write to let me know what you have seen on your banner."

Eperjesi invites anyone who wants to join her in a protest march to meet at Labor at 11:00am on Thursday, February 14. The march will go to Kálvin Square.

Private Protest will be opened by Erika Baglyas at 19:00 on Thursday. The exhibition's curator is Tijana Stepanovic.
