Hungarian, German, French and American investors have already contributed half of the HUF 4 billion cost of the construction of the palace, said János Kocsi, who runs the Attila Foundation, which is overseeing the project. He said the foundation plans to use loans and EU funding to cover the rest of the palace's cost.

The palace will be built in Tápiószentmárton, 60 kilometres outside of Budapest, where Attila the Hun's original palace is thought to have stood.

The 6,000-square-metre replica, designed by Tibor Haide, will be able to accommodate 2,000 visitors at a time. It will have a throne room and a huge cellar. The replica will also have exhibition spaces and room for catering facilities. The palace's four 28-metre-high towers will be visible from the distance.

It is hoped the palace will attract 1 million visitors a year when completed.
