The festival, which was held for the fourth time, is the brainchild of Meyerhold Centre director Valery Fokin, who each year invites a production by a director who uses unconventional practices to make successful theatre.
The invited artists are presented with the Meyerhold Prize, named after the great Russian director Vsevolod Meyerhold, after their works are performed.
Earlier pieces invited to the Meyerhold Festival include Krzystof Warlikowski's Krum by the Teatr Stary of Krakow, the Comédie Francaise's production of Heiner Müller's play Quartet directed by Matthias Langhoff, Zarathustra directed by Krystian Lupa.
The Three Sisters and Others was performed in Moscow by the Hungarian Theatre of Berehove, Ukraine.
