The Alexander Balanescu Quartet

The quartet played parts of the soundtrack to Gábor Dettre's film Tableau as well as well their cover of Kraftwerk's Pocket Calculator.

The Romanian-born violin virtuoso Alexander Balanescu formed the Balanescu Quartet in the late 80s. Balanescu was already well known as a founding member of the Michael Nyman Band.

Balanescu said he was happy to perform at the Hungarian Culture Institute in Brussels as he was glad to be part of any initiative that promoted cooperation between Hungarians and Romanians. He added that he has played often with Muzsikás, perhaps Hungary's best known folk band.

The Hungarian Culture Institute in Brussels has established contacts with the Ancienne Belgique, a club that has hosted performances by Oasis and Bloc Party, and it has formed a cooperation with the Flemish cultural promotion office Linkwadraat.
