Best of Europe's Haydn Festivals Come to Esterháza

The concert series is devoted to Haydn Year 2009, which marks the 200th anniversary of the composer's death. Haydn spent some of his most productive years as the court musician for the noble Hungarian Esterházy family.

 
The Haydn Quartet, representing Eisentstadt's Haydn Festival, will perform on Friday, July 24. The ensemble will perform works by Haydn, Schubert and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
 
On Saturday, Jo Haazen, the director of Belgium's Royal Carillon School, will play the world's only travelling carillon, performing works by Haydn, Mozart, Matthias Van Den Gheyn, Josse Boutmy, Ignace Joseph Pleyel, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Luigi Boccherini.
 
On Saturday, August 15, Capella Augustina from the German city of Brühl's Haydn festival, will play symphonies by Haydn and Mozart as well as the overture to Philemon und Baucis, under the baton of Andreas Spering.
 
Concert-goers can see an exhibition about Prince Miklós Esterházy in the castle.
