Big Hungarian and Foreign Acts on Concert Lineup in 2012

The programme of concerts in the capital will kick off with a show by Thomas Anders and the Modern Talking Band in the Syma events hall on January 6. A day later, audiences will get a double-bill blast of Balkan brass from the Boban and Marko Markovic Orkestar in the Palace of Arts (MUPA).
 
Finnish dark rock/metal band Amorphis is returning to Budapest with material from their concept album The Beginning of Times. The act will perform at Club 202.

The Brit Jane Birkin, the one-time muse of French pop icon Serge Gainsbourg, will please with modern French chansons at a show on the A38, an events venue docked in the Danube, on January 22.
 
Two members of New Model Army, now active for more than three decades, will come to Budapest?s Gozsdu Manó Klub in February. The guitarist and singer Justin Sullivan will take the stage with the keyboardist Dean White on February 12.
 
The UK?s Fields of the Nephilim, who has a similar sound, will play Club 202 on March 10.

Chris Rea will visit Budapest as part of his Santo Spirito European tour on February 15. The venue for the show is the Papp László Sport Arena.
 
Swiss indie band Sounds will play at the Dürer Kert on February 16. Progressive rock/goth compatriots Opeth will perform at Club 202 on February 28.
 
American progressive metal band Dream Theater will play at the Papp László Sport Arena on February 17, performing in Hungary for the eighth time.
 
The experimental rock act from Belgium Deus are booked on the A38 for March 3.
 
American metalcore act Norma Jean will play at the Dürer Kert on March 9. The Dürer Kert will host the Irish post-punk group God Is An Astronaut five days later.
 
Punk rock, hardcore Rise Against, from Chicago, will play at the Petőfi Hall on March 19.

The Canadian songwriter and performance artist Loreena McKennit, a star on the world music scene, will take the stage at the Papp László Sport Arena on March 27.
 
The arena will host a performance by Finland?s Nightwish on April 29. The band is returning to Hungary after a four-year hiatus.
 
The Norwegian saxophonist Jan Garbarek will play with the Hilliard Ensemble in Saint Stephen?s Basilica on May 2.
 
Former Gathering singer Anneke van Giersbergen will return to Budapest with Agua de Annique for a show at Club 202 on May 30.
 
Dubstep and DJ act Skrillex, nominated for five Grammy?s last year, has been booked for the VOLT Festival in Sopron at the end of June.

The Icelandic cultural export Björk is on the bill for the Balaton Sound festival to take place in Zamardi on July 12-15.
 
Stone Roses will return to Hungary after 15 years to perform at the 20th Sziget Festival, slated for August 6-13.
 
British trip-hop/drum-and-base group Kosheen will be among the headliners at the Szeged Youth Days (SZIN) this summer.
 
British folk punk act Levellers are booked for an October 12 show at the A38 in Budapest.
 
 
Omega, giants on the Hungarian pop scene, will celebrate their 50th birthday at a big show on September 23. The band is expected to perform on one of the capital?s main squares.
 
Bikini, another Hungarian band with a long history, will celebrate 30 years with a concert at the Papp László Sport Arena on February 18.
 
The Day of Hungarian Song is expected to take place on September 9 in 2012, although the organisers have accounted some difficulties.
The Benkó Dixieland Band will mark their 55th birthday at a concert in MUPA on April 17.
 
Other bands celebrating anniversaries include the Tátrai Bank and Budapest Bár.
