The Bologna University dedicated a number of seminars to Kurtág?s oeuvre last year, ?so it seemed natural that we would also want to offer a more in-depth overview of his music,? said festival director Mario Messinis.
On September 19, Kurtág and his wife Márta will play the four-hand piece Játékok (Games), and on September 20, the composer will take part in a conference.
World renowned conductor Claudio Abbado will conduct the Mozart Orchestra in a performance of Kurtág?s Grabstein Für Stephan for guitar and ?musical instruments strewn across space? on September 21. Soloists from the orchestra will perform one of Kurtág?s string quartets on September 22.
On October 23, the last day of the Bologna Festival and the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the FontanaMix orchestra will perform works by Kurtág, Ligeti, and Schönberg.
