On three Saturdays in December and January, the British Council and the zoo will hold interactive story-telling sessions guided by native English speakers under the title ?AngoloZoo?. The sessions, for children between the ages of 6 and 12, require no knowledge of English, but aim to get participants interested in learning the language.
The first session will be held on Saturday, December 2, from 15:00 until 16:00. Appropriately, the story will be Saint Nicholas. The second session will be on Saturday, January 13, also from 15:00 until 16:00. It will feature the story Winnie the Pooh. At the third and last session, on January 27, also at the same time as the previous sessions, visitors will hear the story of the Jungle Book. All of the sessions will be held in the zoo?s Barlangterem, or ?cave room?, and are open free of charge to visitors purchasing a zoo ticket.
British Council director Jim McGrath told the Hungarian News Agency in a statement that Hungarian parents have started to pay more attention to developing their children?s English language skills and are seeking out more opportunities for them to learn in a playful and unrestricted manner.
Communications director of the Budapest Zoo Istvan Zachar welcomed the British Council?s initiative, noting that the zoo has been looking for new types of activities that can draw families.
The Budapest Zoo is located at Állatkerti krt. 6-12, in District XIV.
