Buda Castle to Host Crafts Fair

Some 800 masters representing 48 trades recognised by the Association of Hungarian Folk Artists will show their work and offer demonstrations during the five-day festival, which will have a Renaissance theme to mark Hungary's Renaissance Year 2008.

In addition to crafts, the festival has a full musical programme with performers on three stages.

Each of the festival's five days has a special theme. On August 16, musical instruments will be in the focus. There will be performances by the Bartók Dance Ensemble and a concert by Besh o drom. Ági Szalóki will put on a special programme for children, and the hurdy-gurdy master Róbert Mandel will offer a lesson in Renaissance music.

On August 17, foreign guests will be highlighted. Dance ensembles from Austria, Lithuania and Turkey will take the stage, and Tomas Kocko, from the Czech Republic, will perform.  Also on the programme are Kaláka and the Momentán Company.

The theme for August 18 and 19 will be crossing genres. On the 19th, musicians will perform folk music from Lower Carpathia and the Csángó region of Moldova. The Fugato Orchestra will play symphonic rock, and Roma band leaders will come together in an ensemble called Athe Sam. On the 20th, the Kerekes Band will show Csángó folk and boogie do indeed mix. Also taking the stage will be EthnoRom and Bea Palya. Visitors can see an interactive pantomime and commedia dell'arte performance.

The last day of the event will feature performances by the Tükrös Orchestra, the Százszorszép Dance Ensemble, László Fassang, Balázs Dongó Szokolay and Katalin Szvorák.
