Budapest 1900-200 Opens in Paris

English

The photographs show 32 different venues in the Hungarian capital taken by György Klösz in the 1890s and ? from exactly the same angles ? by László Lugosi Lugo in the 1990s. The photographs, displayed side by side, were published in 2001 in a book which sold 45,000 copies in Hungary.

In addition to the city photographs, the exhibition includes 12 images of Lugo at work on the project.

The exhibition, organised as part of Photo Month by the Hungarian Institute in Paris and the Budapest Historical Museum, was opened by the institute?s director András Ecsedi-Derdák and Central European University Professor Gábor Klaniczay.

The photographs can be seen until December 15.

László Lugosi Lugo started taking photographs professionally in 1985 after working as an English interpreter. He has photographed landscapes and buildings, taken portraits and published travel photography. His pictures are included in The Vanishing Budapest, The Art of Packaging, Jewish Budapest, Szentendre, The Castle, Along the Danube, and many collections of photography.
