In addition to Botticelli and Titian, the paintings on show represent the art of over 80 masters, among them Leonardo, Raphael, Veronese and Giorgione and Tintoretto.

"This is one of the world's most exciting exhibitions that now presents the quintessence of Italian Renaissance to the Hungarian public," said Culture Minister Istvan Hiller at the opening. By bringing together a number of valuable pieces from different periods, the Museum of Fine Arts makes a great contribution to the country's reputation.

At the most comprehensive exhibition dedicated to date to Italian Renaissance, works have been loaned by 50 prestigious museums, including the Uffizi in Florence, the Louvre in Paris, the national galleries of London and Washington, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Galleria Borghese in Rome and the Prado in Madrid.

The exhibition will be open to the public until February 14.
