The opera was performed 55 times in the Nazi concentration camp at Theresienstadt. The composer and most of the children who participated in the performances perished in the gas chambers of Auschwitz.
Following a series of performances in schools in the capital Budapest which took place in November, the opera will be staged six times between December 9 and 11 in the Holocaust centre.
The fairy tale opera preaching the victory of goodness and affection on evil was first performed at the BFZ's Mahlerfest in September this year. The roles of the opera are sung by some 25 children, members of the Scola Cantorum Budapestiensis, the Children's Choir of the Hungarian State Opera House and the Children's Choir of the Hungarian Radio, the orchestra said on its website.
