The festival's organisers aim to make the event into something as famous as the Tango Marathon in Berlin and the Tango Festival in Paris, said Péter Ács. Couples from 25 countries have expressed interest in the festival workshops, some of which will be taught by the two-time world tango champion László Budai.
Films about tango, some never before shown in Hungary, will be screened every day at the Hölgyválasz dance studio in Paulay Ede utca.
Milonga evenings will take place on Tuesday at Heroes' Square, on Thursday in the Buda Castle and on Friday in the Urania National Film Theatre. On other nights during the festival, the Milonga evenings will take place in the Hölgyválasz dance studio.
The festival will start on Sunday with a tango marathon that will travel from the Vajdahunyad Castle in the Városliget Park to Liszt Square, the Opera and the Danube bank.
A highlight of the festival will be an evening of music and dance in the Palace of Arts on August 29. Called LiberTango, the evening will feature the three couples from Argentina -- Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes, Mariano "Chico" Frúmboli and Juana Sepulveda, Damian Rosenthal and Celine Ruiz - together with the singer Bernadett Wiedemann, the Danubia Orchestra of Óbuda, the Quartett Escualo, the Tango Cortina and the Pesti Tangózenekar.
