Budapest's A38 Makes it to Top of Lonely Planet List

English

The A38 received 13,300 votes in the ranking. De Witte Aap received 9,718.

A38 press chief Sándor Kozlov said the acknowledgment was a ?great honour? that should be shared with Budapest and all of Hungary.

?Moored on the Buda side just south of Petofi Bridge, the A38 is a decommissioned Ukrainian stone hauler ship from 1968 that has been recycled as a major floating bar and live-music venue. So cool it's hot in summer and the hold, well, rocks throughout the year,? according to the ranking.

It is the first time a Hungarian venue has led the annual ranking.

Another Budapest venue, Szimpla Kert, is in third place on the list, with 4,480 votes.

?The granddaddy of Budapest's super grungy romkocsma (ruin pubs), Szimpla was the first to open and is still arguably the best and bawdiest of the bunch. Several rooms, including a large open-air garden, can accommodate hundreds of people, partying into the night and picking from a great selection of beers, wine and cocktails,? the venue is described in the ranking.
