Building Permit Issued for "Whale"

English

The two rows of brick warehouses will house cafes, restaurants, bookshops and an events centre with a capacity to seat more than a thousand people. The buildings and the space in between are to be covered by a giant glass canopy that resembles a whale, hence the project's name, CET, which is the abbreviation for Central European Time and a synonym for "whale" in Hungarian.

The nearly HUF 8 billion project was designed by the Dutch architect Kas Oosterhuis. It is slated to open in the summer of 2010.
