"I am very pleased to have worked with Hungarian film industry professionals for 35 years. I like Hungary and my Hungarian colleagues, and it makes me most happy that they like me," Rosic, who celebrated his 78th birthday last month, said upon learning of the award.

Though he does not consider himself a big film star in Hungary, Rosic said he would come from Sofia to Budapest to accept the award personally on February 8.

Rosic's career in Hungarian film started with Ferenc Kardos's historical drama Hajdúk in 1975. He has since worked with the directors Márta Mészáros, Miklós Jancsó, Krisztina Deák and János Edelényi.

Rosic said he had learned Hungarian over the past 35 years, but only enough "to get by in a pub".  He said he learnt how to swear in Hungarian from the stuntmen, "and that comes in handy at the pub too."

Rosic left Serbia for political reasons and has lived in Sofia since 1951. "I have never appeared in a Serbian film, as I am a Bulgarian actor," he said.
