The local council found in a poll that the district's residents want a community centre that offers library services, internet access, a place for lectures, workshops and recreational activities, said district mayor József Tóth.
The new building is to have a combined area of 5,000 square metres, including a large hall with a capacity for 500 people. It will also have exhibition spaces, a reading room, a rehearsal room, a club room, IT rooms, a cafeteria and a recreational area. The district's pensioners club and two local branches of the Szabó Ervin Municipal Library will also be moved to the new community centre.
The building will be constructed on the site of a socialist-era pre-fab concrete building that is to be demolished. The existing building would have been too expensive to refurbish. A primary school occupies about one-quarter of the building's space, but it will be merged with another nearby school undergoing a HUF 2bn renovation.
