The exhbition, called ?Budapest ? Light and Shadow?, puts the museum?s most important objects on display, such as a sword recovered from the Danube and a silver necklace uncovered in an archaeological dig during the construction of the M0 motorway.
The exhibition utilises touch screen monitors, interactive games and audio materials to better bring the capital?s colourful history to visitors. It replaces an exhibition that has been on display at the museum for some 20 years.
The new permanent exhibition will be completed in two phase. The first, to be inaugurated on Friday, is on 517 square metres. The second phase, on 400 square metres, will be completed in the spring of 2012.
The curators of the new permanent exhibition are the historian Roland Perényi and the archaeologist András Végh.
