Molnár and Lencsés, who started working together just a few months ago, did not expect success to come so quickly.
Molnár moved to Budapest eight years ago and started working for Rotschild Clothing Design Salon. Later, she designed wedding dresses before setting up her own shop. After several start-ups, Molnár decided in November last year to look for a partner and placed a help-wanted ad. Lencsés, who studied dressmaking before graduating from the set design department at Budapest's Fine Arts Academy, was one of many to answer the ad. Molnár picked her because of her background in theatre and the new profile she would bring to MID Salon. Lencsés accepted the job and left her teaching position at the Fine Arts Academy.
MID Salon's approach is to create "attractive and wearable clothes", not to reshape the fashion world, Lencsés said.
The two designers decided early this year to organise a show of their work at the Szimpla Garden. It took place on March 28 and was attended by a number of celebrities and well known designers. The buzz generated by the show resulted in an invitation to show MID Salon's work at a Fashion Week event in Budapest's Ybl Palace on April 20.
Budapest's Fashion Week, modelled after London's Fashion Week, involves shows in the spring and the autumn. "It is fantastic that we have been invited. We would like to attend the autumn show, as well," Lencsés said.
She added that the invitation could be the start of bigger things. "For the time being, we do not know whether this road will lead to London, but we will do our best."
