Using an oversized living room as a set, the dancers of Compagnie Chute Libre have created a hip hop patchwork production called Living Room Orchestra that astounds with talent and charm.
Festival-goers at the Sziget have had the opportunity to see several other dance troupes bring hip hop to the stage, among them Cie Accroorap. These productions have demonstrated how rich a means of expression just four or five different movements hip hip can offer dancers. Naturally, much of the success of these productions is dependent on the virtuosity of the performers, a virtuosity which won Chute Libre a standing ovation.
Chute Libre is extremely inventive with the elements of hip hop, using gags, a measure of poetry, wild tempos, radiant energy and fine wit. The production is smart and fresh, far from cliché, and its characters draw one into the action.
