Over the years, CineFest has gained a reputation not only in the region and Europe, but throughout the world. CineFest is a festival for young filmmakers to present their works in all areas of the trade: feature films, short films, documentaries, experimental films and animated films. Several hundred applications are submitted to the festival?s organisers each year from as far away as Mexico and Japan.
This year?s festival will be longer and bigger, with two new venues, in order to accommodate growing audience interest and an increasing number of submissions. In addition to films, the festival will feature question and answer sessions with filmmakers, workshops, roundtable discussions and other cultural events.
Films for competition have been selected by a jury chaired by Mediawave Festival director Jenő Hartyándi. Jury members include CineFest festival director Tibor Bíró, CineFest programme director Péter Madaras, the film critic Géza Csákvári, documentary filmmakers Péter Muszatics and Nóra Ruszkai and CineFest organiser Gábor Soltész.
Prizes will be awarded by an international jury in several categories, including feature film, short film, documentary, animated and experimental film. Special awards will also be granted by the Ministry of Education and Culture, the city of Miskolc, critics and a student jury. A total of HUF 1 million in prize money will be awarded to winners.
Altogether 208 films from 36 countries were submitted to be shown at this year?s festival. Of these, 80 films from 27 countries were shortlisted, including 8 feature films, 37 short films, 10 documentaries, 16 animated films and 9 experimental films.
Géza M Tóth?s animation film Maestro was among last year?s CineFest prize-winners.
