The organisations have drafted a petition calling for the establishment of a body to consult with authorities on proposed developments in the city.

At least ten percent of the city?s voters, or 14,000 people, must sign the petition for it to be put to the local council.

?It is intolerable that a six-storey hotel complex should be built in the centre of Subotica. Citizens and professionals must become involved in the shaping of the city?s development,? said Višnja Kisić, secretary of Europa Nostra?s Belgrade office.

The petition is supported by Hungary?s National Cultural Fund and the Teleki László Foundation.
