Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Culture Márta Schneider paid a visit to the construction site of the new building on Friday. She said the underground car park has already been completed and most of the work on the building is expected to finish by May.

The ground floor of the 2,200-square-metre building will house a cafeteria, restaurant and reception area. The first floor will be occupied by an exhibition space, the second floor will be used for film screenings, conferences and lectures, the third floor will house a library, and offices will be located on the fourth floor. Apartments for guests will be situated in the loft of the building, Schneider said. The ministry plans to invite tenders soon to design the interior of the building, she added.

The Collegium Hungaricum ? a centre for Hungarian culture and science ? was set up 80 years ago, but the original building was destroyed in World War II. The centre is currently housed in a more modern building near the centre of the former eastern side of the city.

The corner stone for the new building was laid at the site of the original Collegium Hungaricum in March, at the start of Ungarischer Akzent.

The Collegium Hungaricum building is one of three being built at the site in Dorotheenstrasse. The other two will be rented out by an investor.

The general contractor for the building was selected in a tender
