Compagnie Flak To Start Budapest Autumn Festival

English

The troupe, which is visiting Budapest for the third time, will perform their latest production entitled ?Portable Dances?. Portable Dances is a triple bill, which relies on the simple effect of movement and light.

The first part, Pas de Deux for four Dancers, mimics "mechanisms in motion". These are blocks of movement that begin with a simple phrase, which is inverted, altered, elaborated and deconstructed, creating a complex machine of arms and legs.

The second part, ?Solo with Light? is a solo performed by José Navas. The only object on stage is a source of light.

In the last section, ?Trio in White?, three of the troupe?s female members alternate between stillness and accelerated movements.

Navas, who was hailed by critics as a ?soloist wunderkind? when he started his career, has worked with such dance greats as Michael Clark, Bill T. Jones and Lucinda Childs. He was a member of Merce Cunningham?s studio between 1988 and 1991. Flak, established in 1955, is a regular highly-esteemed guest at European and overseas festivals from Vienna to Montreal.

Compagnie Flak will perform at the Trafó House of Contemporary Arts, Liliom u. 41, District IX, at 20:00 on October 6.
