Santora, who spends much of his time in the United States, is conducting the orchestra for the second time. The first was in 2002.
The concert will feature Charles Ives? Symphony No 3, composed between 1902 and 1904, rewritten in 1909 and premiered only in 1946. The piece, which Ives called a crossover between the old and the new, is the second by the composer to be played by the National Philharmonic Orchestra this season. The concert programme will also include Debussy?s Nocturnes, which features a 16-member female choir in its third movement, entitled ?Sirens?. The part will be sung by members of the Hungarian National Choir. The closing piece of the evening will be Richard Strauss?s Don Quixote, with the extraordinary Miklós Perényi on cello and the orchestra?s soloist László Bársony on viola.
