Lívia Szentmártoni, who is responsible for ties between Hungary and China at the Szeged University of Sciences, said the institute will offer language courses, cultural programmes and information on China?s society and economy.
The Szeged University of Sciences and the Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) signed a letter of intent to set up the institute last November. An agreement on its establishment was signed at the Confucius Institute headquarters in Beijing three weeks earlier.
Gábor Galambos, dean of the Szeged University of Science?s Education Department, said establishment of the institute would be a milestone for the university as well as for local businesses.
A Confucius Institute established in partnership with the Eötvös Loránd University has operated in Budapest since the end of 2006.
