Critic Finds Little to Like in Hungarian Ballet Production

"I wish I could report, then, that there was some enjoyment to be had while watching a giant fake-stone Lenin head being rolled around the Joyce Theater's stage Tuesday night....Alas.... It was only dispiriting, like most everything else on the program," La Rocco said in a piece published in Thursday's New York Times.

The critic said the Győr National Ballet's A Stravinsky Evening, which was completed by Rite of Spring, "sought oh so earnestly to address big, sweeping themes and emotions" but the director Attila Kun "instead threw a bunch of ideas onto the stage".

La Rocco did say the performance was "handsomely lighted".
