The performance is part of a cooperation the two theatres formed after national theatre representatives were impressed by Vidnyánszky?s directorial work at last year?s Deszka Festival, said theatre press chief Adriana Popescu.

The national theatre plans to visit Debrecen with a piece by Luca Caragiale, one of Romania?s best known playwrights, before the end of the year. This year is the hundredth anniversary of Caragiale?s birth and the troupe has several of the writer?s plays on their programme.

The Bucharest National Theatre also maintains ties with the Radnóti Theatre in Budapest. The Hungarian theatre brought a production of Apaches to Bucharest last May.

The Bucharest National Theatre will perform Eugene Ionesco?s The Lesson at the Radnóti Theatre on May 30 and a piece based on the poems of Mihai Eminescu on May 31. The latter performance will feature the national theatre?s director, Ion Caramitru.
