The Cullberg Ballet, a part of Riksteatern, Sweden's National Touring Theatre, is in its fifth decade as a leading company on the front line of modern dance. The ensemble has performed in more than forty countries and is an important cultural ambassador for Sweden.
The ballet will bring three pieces choreographed by Johan Inger to the Palace of Arts on April 17 and 18: Empty House, Negro con Flores and Walking Mad.
Empty House, with music by local ethno-jazz star Félix Lajkó, centres around a feeling of being trapped inside oneself.
"Negro con Flores exists in a landscape between darkness and light, seriousness and levity. It weaves its way through a formation of emotional states with the aim of breaking loose, moving on. This piece is an attempt to break out of known patterns of mine, and in this way, hopefully, to find new openings," according to the Cullberg Ballet website.
Walking Mad, performed to Ravel's Bolero, "is a dramatic adventure about three women and their relationships to themselves and to the men in their lives. It is a humorous piece with a serious undertone," the company says.
