Istvan Hiller spoke at the annual meeting of heads of the 19 Hungarian institutes and noted that in 2006, the government had started building a network of cultural diplomats to represent the country in additional cities around world. The minister said the new network now included Beijing, Shanghai, Tel-Aviv, Abu Dhabi and Madrid.
Hungary's Balassi Institute, which coordinates Hungarian institutes abroad, is spending 2.6 billion forints (EUR 9.4m) on their operations in 2009, Eva Lauter, head of the Balassi Institute, said at the meeting.
