Among the participants at the conference were Russian Ambassador to Hungary and Danube Commission chairman Igor Savolsky, German Ambassador to Hungary Dotothee Janetzke-Wenzel, Vienna Mayor Michael Haupl, Nathalie Verschelde of the European Commission Regional Directorate, Ulm Mayor Ivo Gönner, Hungarian Foreign Ministry State Secretary József Czukor, the Hungarian writer György Konrád and Budapest Mayor Gábor Demszky.
Demszky, who was elected a council member, said he hoped a decision on a common Danube strategy would become a reality when Hungary takes the rotating European Union presidency in 2011.
Demszky presented a Pro Cultura Hungarica Award to Ulm Danube Office director Peter Langer on behalf of the Hungarian Government at the conference.
The Donaubüro, or Danube Office, supported by the city of Ulm, is represented by Studio Metropolitana in Budapest. Other representatives are in Baja, Vidin, Vukovar, Novi Sad, Turnu Severin, Dulcea, Sulina and Belgrade.
