Danubia Orchestra Records Hungarian Dances

"I considered (the recording) a real test of strength for the orchestra because about a third of the Hungarian Dances are very well known," said Héja. One would think that there are a lot of recordings of very popular pieces, but this isn't the case. Although Iván Fischer and Claudio Abbado have recently conducted on excellent recordings of the dances - another reason the recording put the orchestra's skill to the test, he added.

The Hungarian Dances were written in 1869 and 1880, but not for orchestra, rather for four-hand piano. On the Danubia Orchestra's recording, transcriptions of the dances for orchestra by Andreas Hallén, Albert Parlow, Paul Juon, Hans Gál and Antonin Dvoák can be heard.

The Danubia Orchestra will launch the recording at a concert in the Kiscelli Museum on January 9.
