The stage and museum will open already next year. The projects enjoy the support of the local council, and the Kossuth Award-winning puppeteer Henrik Kemény has offered to contribute 20 million forints and his collection of puppets, Nagy said.
?It would not make sense to spend hundreds of millions on a Disneyland-type amusement park; instead we will carry on a tradition of family entertainment by recreating the atmosphere of old Debrecen fairs,? he added.
Director of Vojtina Puppet Theatre Anikó Asbóth said a total of 387 performances were held in the 2008-2009 season, drawing 41,000 people. The theatre hosted twelve guest performances as well, she added.
The theatre will open next season on the last Sunday of August with a family day. The first performance, entitled Little King of December, will take place on September 12.
The theatre will participate at the world festival of puppeteers in France in September. The 10-day event, the largest of its kind, includes more than 1,000 performances from all over the world. The Vojtina troupe will bring two performances and 16 puppeteers, she added.
