The sundial is made of 4,000 flowers, stone and wrought iron. It is the work of the sculptor Jolán Mihály, black smith Péter Barkóczi and engineer László Tulok.
The sundial was inaugurated by Debrecen's mayor Lajos Kósa and head of the synod of the Reformed Church of Hungary Gusztáv Bölcskei.
Bölcskei said this year's Flower Carnival would be dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the birth of the church reformer John Calvin.
