Deep Purple last visited Hungary in 2003 when they played two shows: in Budapest and in Debrecen. The band played in Hungary in 2000 and 1998 as well.
Deep Purple has produced such hard rock standards as ?Black Night?, ?Hush?, ?Child in Time? and ?Smoke on the Water?. The band, formed in 1968, has achieved legendary success in tours in Europe and the US.
The band?s style was initially branded progressive rock, but after a series of famous albums, including ?Deep Purple in Rock?, ?Fireball?, ?Machine Head?, ?Made in Japan? and ?Who Do We Think We Are?, it established its position as a leading force in hard rock.
Over the years, Deep Purple has played at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in the Royal Albert Hall, at the Melbourne Entertainment Centre, in Tokyo, Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow and Toronto. The band still attracts sold-out shows and has sold over 100 million albums.
In their first line-up, which produced the band?s first hit single ?Hush?, keyboardist Jon Lord was joined by bassist Nick Simper, drummer Ian Paice and singer Rod Evans. Over the years, the band?s line-up has changed and some of the most famous members, such as guitarist Richie Blackmore and keyboardist Jon Lord started to pursue new careers. The current line-up includes Ian Gillan (vocals), Steve Morse (guitar), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums) and Don Airey (keyboards). This line-up recorded Deep Purple?s 2003 album ?Bananas? and last year?s ?Rapture of a Deep?. Both albums showed an energetic and powerful sound similar to the classic Deep Purple albums.
