Der Standard Publishes Péter Nádas Interview

English

The Kossuth Prize-winning author said in the interview that he had a firm idea for the structure of the book as well as for its characters even before he started writing it.

Nádas said he had started writing Parallel Stories in 1985, the same year he completed A Book of Memories. He added that the experience of a heart attack he suffered in 1993, seven years into writing the book, had ?fortified? him, and he restructured the work after recovering.

He did not abandon the conventional form of the novel in the reworking of the book, although he conceded that its form ?was probably was not in line with expectations for a conventional novel?.

A German translation of Parallel Stories by Christina Viragh has been published by Rowohlt. The book appeared in Hungary in 2005.
