Festival director Attila Vidnyánszky said 24 performances took place at this year's festival, almost one-third more than last year. Performances such as 20/20, Lire and Epic, and The Imaginary Operetta generated especially strong interest, he added.
Next year, the programme structure will change to focus on Hungarian plays that have been shown abroad, Vidnyánszky said. It is not enough to concentrate on the texts, rather more must be done to speak to audiences, he added.
The festival could also be made an international event, the director said.
About 500 people came to this year's festival.
The goals of the festival, which is the brainchild of the Csokonai Theatre's former director János Csányi, are to support plays as a form of literature, to raise the profile of the theatre and to evaluate plays.
