The playhouse, a joint project of the Pro Health and Sustainable Future Foundation and the E-Mission National and Environmental Protection Association, was supported with European Union funding.

László Tömöri of the E-Mission National and Environmental Protection Association said the partners in the project won an EU grant of more than 123 million forints and each contributed more than 6 million forints of their own resources. The local council of Nyíregyháza contributed the property for the playhouse, an old army recreation centre with eight cabins, he added.

The playhouse is built on 400 square metres on two floors of the recreation centre. It features a labyrinth, secret hideaways, motion-directed games, a multimedia slide and a talking robot. Outside, there is a skittle alley and grills for cooking out.

The playhouse is expected to draw some of the children who are among the 500,000 annual visitors to the Nyíregyháza Sóstó-Zoo, the more than 200,000 visitors to the Sóstó Baths and the 100,000 visitors to the nearby open-air museum.
