(MTI) - EU 2020 helps member states elaborate customised reform programmes, the commissioner said. She added that the new programme focuses on five key areas only, as opposed to the EU's earlier Lisbon strategy having 23 priorities.

The primary goal of EU 2020 is to help members find a way out of the economic crisis and to resolve the growing issue of unemployment, which especially hits the young population.

Concerning education, the commissioner noted that the EU had defined a dual goal seeking to reduce the number of students dropping out of school without any qualifications below 10 percent and to increase the number of graduates to exceed 40 percent at the same time.
