Including Budapest?s museums, the castle in Eger is the fourth most popular museum in Hungary, according to Tivadar Petercsák, the museum?s director. He added that the museum has been a big draw for visitors for several years, despite growing competition from the capital?s museums, which have the capacity to host big exhibitions and offer entry free of charge.
Last year saw the opening of a new conference centre and exhibition areas in the Dobó Bastion, and a HUF 2 billion renovation project started in the Orczy Castle of Gyöngyös, which houses the Mátra Museum, Petercsák said.
This year, the István Dobó Castle Museum plans to tender for funding to expand the Gothic palace of the castle and refurbish the medieval cellars.
