The István Dobó Castle Museum will host its annual historical carnival between July 18 and 26. The National Archers Conference will take place during the festival as will an archery contest. A parade in historical dress, horn-bowing and shooting are all on the programme, too. Visitors can see weapons and armour from the Middle Ages, or take a torch-lit evening tour of the local caves. Life in the castle under the Turkish occupation can be experienced during Eastern Cultures Days.
Eger will host the Slow Film International Film Festival for the third time between July 25 and August 1. The festival organisers aim to show that time - that is, slowing down - is of the essence in the accelerated world in which we live.
The Agra Nyári Játékok is an ongoing summer festival at venues all around Eger. The programme has something to offer everybody: a dance piece called Nagyidai cigányok by the Experidance Sándor Román Company, or a production of The Stars of Eger performed in the castle which the setting for the novel on which the play is based.
Earlier in July, the city celebrated its namesake wine Eger Bull's Blood, with a wine- and food-tasting event in its main square. The food and wine were complemented over three days by performances by the Benkó Dixieland band and Jazz Steps.
