Ethnic Hungarian Theatre Festival Starts Thursday

The festival, which runs until July 1, will feature 32 performances at four venues: a stage in the Kisvárda castle, at the town?s House of Arts, in the Studio Theatre and in the Chamber Theatre, said the festival?s organiser, Béla Nyakó, director of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County theatres.

The performers will arrive from four of Hungary?s neighbours, including ten groups from Romania, four from Serbia, one from Slovakia and also one from Ukraine.

The groups from Romania will include the Áron Tamási Theatre from Sfântu Gheorghe, the National Theatre from Târgu Mureş, the Gergely Csiky Theatre from Timişoara, the Theatre Academy Troupe of Târgu Mureş, the Northern Theatre from Satu Mare, the Figura Studio from Gheorgheni, the Csíki Theatre of Miercurea Ciuc, the Sándor Tomcsa Theatre from Odorheiu Secuiesc, the State Theatre Szigligeti Group from Oradea and the Babes-Bolyai University Theatre Students? Troupe from Cluj-Napoca.

The Novi Sad Theatre, the Hungarian troupe of the People? Theatre from Subotica, the Farmstead Theatre of Vojvodina and the Novi Sad Art Academy troupe will arrive from Vojvodina in Serbia.

Southern Slovakia will be represented by the Thália Theatre of Kosice, and Lower Carpathia in the Ukraine will be represented by the Gyula Illyés Hungarian National Theatre of Berehove.

The festival?s opening ceremony will be held in the House of Arts in Kisvárda at 18:00 on Thursday, to be followed by Lajos Barta?s play ?Love? performed by the Csíki Theatre of Miercurea Ciuc.

Also on the opening day, the Novi Sad Theatre group will perform Várkonyi-Nagy?s ?Brave New world? on the castle stage from 21:00.
