(MTI) - The five have dominated Hungarian and universal photography, and the side-by-side images offer a unique cross-section of 20th century history. All five worked between 1912 and 1976.
Kertesz, who played with geometry and distortion, won recognition in France and world fame in the United States. Brassai - whose real name was Gyula Halasz - was known for images of the people who made up the seedier side of Paris, and Capa's war snapshots began with the Spanish civil war and ended with his own death in Vietnam. Moholy-Nagy was a defining member of the Bauhaus in Germany, and Munkacsi began as a sports reporter in Germany and went on to set the foundations for modern fashion photography in the United States.
One hundred and fifty of their images are on display.
